Experience of a siege
Performing arts Performance/Presentation
Bizarre, funny and extreme moments of war are brought to life here.
Life is turned upside down in war and conflict situations. Humor was what people still had in the most oppressive situations: they could be deprived of water, electricity, even basic rights. You could even take away their lives – but humor was sometimes the only thing that remained. Being able to laugh in the face of danger in order to somehow make sense of it all was and is a formula for survival. In “Was haben wir gelacht”, the siege of war is simulated both visually and acoustically, while the actors portray authentic, funny situations and anecdotes from everyday life at the time. The audience is right in the middle of the action and experiences its very own confrontation with the subject of war. The vivid experience of terrible situations is juxtaposed with bizarre situation comedy. The setting for the production is an entire house: cellar, hallway, kitchen, living room. The atmosphere, sounds, smells and images will convey an intense feeling of the exceptional situation of war. “Was haben wir gelacht” brings together various artists from all over Europe and will be shown at the RADAR OST festival at Deutsches Theater Berlin. Alongside Ina Arnautalić, Maja Zećo and Sandin Puce, director Luk Perceval is part of the artistic team.
